  • how to calculate a job when you`re not allowed to show the stuff

Just wondering if anyone had this situation before (i guess so),

I did a clip for a client, everything fine, client happy me happy all good.

Here you can watch it, if you`re interested:
    http://www.redbull.com/us/en/motorsp...mation-webcast

The event already took place in the beginning of january.
I was asking how about using the stuff for the own website, showreel etc.
(ok ok some could say would had been better to ask in the beginning, but hey it was the first job i did for that part of the company,
so it was more or less a chance to show your skills)

After having some emails back and forth for weeks, the final statement was: you can use 2-3 stills for the website but nothing animated from the clip.
So, ok could be worse, at least i can show some pics. Little bit sad though because of the animated stuff.

Which leads me to the question, how to behave with future jobs coming along, as i said client was pretty happy so there are good chances of following jobs.
How do you deal with jobs you can`t show? How to keep motivation then to shape pixels perfectly?
That`s a little bit a misery i guess, on the one hand i`m super proud to be able to do that stuff, on the other hand if you would work like this all the year
there won`t be any new stuff on the website anymore. also no good

I guess it comes down to money. Do you charge some extra amount for that, does it have something to do with picture rights etc.?
Is there even a official way to calculate that (like 2D Stuff, what is the use, is it worldwide etc.)

Looking forward what you guys think about it!

I feel your pain. It does take the wind out of the sails, at least for me. Like you said, this should be decided before the project starts. It's hard working your butt off to make someone else look good, isn't it?

Best bet is put this one to rest. If you want to show animations - make your own invest the time up front to get more work later. No one can tell you not to use your own stuff - I did this a lot in the beginning of my career.
